This is the video of the discovery of a Maya royal tomb by a team of archaeologists led by Brown University’s Stephen Houston, which dates from about 350 to 400 A.D., the burial chamber, some six feet high, four feet wide and 12 feet long, lay under a small temple to a sun god in the city of Zotz at the foot of the pyramid called "El Diablo", the tomb contains carved wood, painted stucco, rope and pottery, as well as bowls containing finger bones.

The tomb is likely from a king they only know about from other hieroglyphic texts, but still much to be deciphered yet. It is known that adolescents were frequently sacrificed during the burial of Mayan kings but in this tomb was found something unusual, the uncovered bones of children as young as 12 months old, much younger than the past findings, all this open a new question to solve in the Mayan world.

In Stephen Houston words:

“These items are artistic riches, extraordinarily preserved from a key time in Maya history,”. “From the tomb’s position, time, richness, and repeated constructions atop the tomb, we believe this is very likely the founder of a dynasty.”

"When we opened the tomb, I poked my head in and there was still, to my astonishment, a smell of putrification and a chill that went to my bones,".
"The chamber had been so well sealed, for over 1600 years, that no air and little water had entered."

Still a lot of work to do in this great discovery, but in time it will open the vail of the understanding of the mayan culture.

Greetings.

Saludos.
